Warhorses in Training

Shortly after returning from the Championships in Estes Park, we brought the beautiful Shire Stallion and Warhorse, Dallas, back to his owner, Charlie Vogele.

Dallas had come a long way since he was unloaded from the trailer that day in April. He had progressed from pulling people around wherever he wanted to go to pulling his weight in the lists.

One of my favorite moments was when I got Dallas worked up before one of our evening performances. For the first time, he got right in there and played chicken with the opposing horse! I really enjoyed working with him and look forward to when our paths cross again.

We're now busy training thr three horses that Alliance Member, Dr. Steve Pehrson purchased in October. They are Brutus, a 1600 lb., 16.1 hand Grey Shire Gelding. Then there is Apollis, a five year old recently gelded Shire. He's black with four white socks and a blaze. He's not large in stature for a Shire, but he makes up for it with heart. Claudius is a three year old 3/4 Shire and 1/4 Percheron. He's black with a nice blaze. He's about 1650 lbs and stands about 16.3 hands high. His low key attitude gives little indication of his substance.

Keep an eye out for these horses in 2001. They are all going to make fine Warhorses.
